A much needed friend

Denise Richmond, left, is surprised by Kathy Laframboise, both of Sidney, with a yorkie named Maddy at Tawawa Park Friday, April 7. Friends, family and well wishers came out to watch. A picnic table full of gift baskets filled with donations from local businesses and people in the community was also presented to Richmond. The outpouring of support is in response to traumatic events in Richmond’s life. Richmond has battled leukemia for years and was recently told she now has both Hodgkin’s and non-Hodkin’s Lymphoma. On the same day in late February she was told she needed to be immediately admitted to a hospital her 16-year-old chihuahua Sandy had to be put down. Richmond had been hunting for a yorkie. Richmond told animal advocate Laframboise, who is the mom of her friend Paula Cotterman, what she was looking for. Laframboise scoured the country for the highly in demand and expensive breed. She found Maddy, a rescue from a puppy mill, in Moscow, OH. In an online post Richmond said “Kathy I love you so so so much you gave me the biggest gift from God. She (Maddy) is settling in so nice.”
