Classic summer film series begins June 7

SIDNEY — Raise the Roof for the Arts Announces 2017 Summer Nights Classic Film Series line-up Wednesday evenings from June 7 through Aug. 9.

“Since the 1920’s the Historic Sidney Theatre has been the place to see Hollywood blockbusters on the silver screen,” said Executive Director, Sarah Barr. “We want to rekindle that tradition in the 21st century. By partnering with the DP&L Foundation we are able to present for the third year Summer Nights Classic Film Series.

“This summer we are also offering a kids series every Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m. from June 14 through July 12,” said Barr.

Children under the age of 15 must must be accompanied by an adult. The line-up for these movies may be found on the Historic Sidney Theatre website at www.sidneytheatre.org.

Movie-goers may purchase either series passes or individual tickets online at www.sidneytheatre.org or stop by the Historic Sidney Theatre office, 120 W. Poplar St., Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. The series pass is $15. Individual tickets are $3 and available day-of-show at the box office, beginning 30 minutes prior to show time.

The films start at 7:30 each Wednesday evening.

• June 7: “Adventures in Babysitting,”1985, rated PG-13

• June 14: “Bad Boys,” 1995, rated R

• June 21: “Rebel Without a Cause,” 1955, rated PG-13

• June 28: “Remember the Titans,” 2000, rated PG

• July 5: “Roman Holiday,” 1953, not rated

• July 12: “Close Encounters of the Third Kind,” 1977, rated PG

• July 19: “Moulin Rouge,” 2001, rated PG-13

• July 26: “Westside Story,” 1961, not rated

• Aug. 2: “The Graduate,” 1967, rated PG

• Aug. 9: “Dirty Dancing,” 1987, rated PG-13

• Aug. 24: “Paper Lion,” 1968, not rated

“Westside Story,” which was released in 1961, will be shown Wednesday, July 26, at the Sidney Historic Theatre.
