Firefighters battle fire, smoke

Black smoke pours out of Boomerang Rubber Inc. (former Lot-Ridge Rubber Co.), 105 Dinsmore St., Botkins, Sunday afternoon. Firefighters from Shelby and Auglaize counties battled the fire Sunday. The first calls to 911 were received around 1:15 reporting a structure fire at the business. Botkins Fire, Van Buren Township Fire, Jackson Center Fire and New Knoxville Fire departments were all dispatched to the scene. Aerial ladder trucks from New Bremen Fire and Wapakoneta Fire were also requested at the scene to assist with the fire. Three squads from Anna Rescue were also dispatched to the scene. Firefighters from Minster and Fort Loramie Fire departments provided additional manpower at the fire. Shelby County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Botkins Police assisted at the scene. The Ohio EPA has been called. No further information was available at press time.
