Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1917

James Askrens, who resides in Riverside northeast of the city, reported to police today that he was held up by two men last night about 9 o’clock while crossing the Mosquito Creek Bridge on the Dingman pike. The men threated to shoot Askrens unless he turned over his money. When he said he didn’t have any and they “had a shoot coming,” the men disappeared in the darkness.

Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1942

First Lieutenant Wallace W. Masteller has arrived safely at his foreign destination, according to a message received today by his mother. His orders had called for him to be assigned as an American observer with the British army.

The Navy this afternoon announced that United States submarines, operating in the Far East and North Pacific have sunk four more Japanese cargo transports and merchant ships.

Wednesday, Aug. 23, 1967

Downtown Sidney will not be limited to a single food dispensary after the closing of Minton’s Market on North Main Avenue to make way for a telephone company addition. In addition to Dorsey’s Super-Valu, several smaller establishments will remain in operation although not of supermarket proportions. Included among these are Kiser’s Meat Market at 223 East Court Street, the nearby Gilardi’s fruit market and the lsaily dairy store on North Main.

A new teacher in the Hardin-Houston Schools this year is Ann Moorman. She is a teacher of developmentally handicapped students. A new teacher this year it he Fort Loramie schools is Teresa Puthoff. She is a Chapter I reading and reading recovery teacher.
