YMCA offers 13th annual 5K Run/Walk

SIDNEY — The Sidney-Shelby County YMCA will host its 13th annual YMCA 5K Run/Walk on Sept. 9, 2017, starting at 8:30 a.m., with race-day registration beginning at 7:30 a.m.

This year’s 5K features a course where participants will start and finish at the Sidney-Shelby County YMCA and travel along residential streets. The overall top male and female finishers will receive a trophy and the top three male and female finishers in each age division will receive an award. The event will begin with a 1 mile Fun Run starting at 8 a.m. Awards, refreshments and music will be at the finish line.

Returning this year is the Corporate Challenge! Employees from local businesses and other organizations are encouraged to participate as a team. There will be special prizes for the Corporate Challenge participants including Corporation with the most participants, top three corporate male and female finishers, and fastest corporate overall team time.

This is the 11th year that the YMCA 5K race has been a part of the Shelby County 5K Tour, which includes a total of 12 5K races in Shelby County. All participants who compete in at least five out of the 12 5K races in the Shelby County Tour will be awarded a specially designed drawstring bag. Participants who complete eight races in the tour will receive a premium water bottle and those who complete 11 races will receive a tour half-zip pullover. Those who participate in any of the 5K races involved in the Tour are automatically eligible to compete in their age categories for additional awards. Point totals for competition in each age category can be tracked online at www.shelbycounty5ktour.com.

All proceeds from the Thirteenth Annual YMCA 5K Run/Walk will go towards the YMCA Community Partners Campaign, which provides financial assistance towards YMCA membership, child care fees and programs fees for individuals in Shelby County.
