dayton — WDTN-TV and WBDT-TV (Dayton’s CW) in partnership with the Dayton area chapter of the American Red Cross will be hosting Harvey – A Day of Caring event on Wednesday, Sept. 6.

This day long fundraising event will help in the massive relief effort in Texas after Hurricane Harvey. Harvey – A Day of Caring will begin on 2 NEWS Today on Dayton’s CW at 7am and will continue throughout the day during Living Dayton, Five on 2 and 2 NEWS at 6 on WDTN-TV.

2 NEWS and the Red Cross teamed up earlier in the week and raised nearly $20,000 in just ninety minutes with the help from viewers of 2 NEWS.

“What we accomplished in a very short amount of time is a testament to the compassion our loyal viewers have for those affected,” said Joe Abouzeid, WDTN-TV vice president and general manager. “We know there’s still so much more to be done and we’re ready to help.”

Phone lines will be set up and manned all day by Red Cross volunteers, community leaders and 2 NEWS on-air talent to take donations from viewers who would like to help in raising money for those affected.

“Relief efforts will take months, even years,” said Cory Paul, executive director Dayton Chapter of American Red Cross. “Even the smallest donation can make a difference.”

All proceeds raised will go directly to helping the thousands of victims affected by the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.
