John P. Ley has accepted a lucrative position in Philadelphia and will go there next week. He will move his family there as soon as arrangements can be made.

J.C. Royan has purchased the livery stable of C.C. Johnston, and C.H. Furman will take charge of it.

100 Years

Sept. 7, 1917

Policeman Jacob Eisenstein has resigned as a member of the police force. He has been connected with the department for the past 19 years and was the oldest man in time of service except the chief.

Sixteen teams have been named to participate in the golf championship at the Sidney Country Club. In the play Saturday afternoon, Harry Dunham turned in the low score, making the course of nine holes in 43.

75 Years

Sept. 7, 1942

Word has been received here that Capt. Sylvester Stephan, of the U.S. Marine Corps has been promoted to the rank of major and has also been transferred from his former location at Quantico, Va., to the Marine camp at New River, N.C. He is the commanding officer of the amphibious tractor battalion attached to the 21st Marine regiment.

Celebrations were in order today by the Sidney Machine Tool softball team who last night copped its first city softball crown by taking its second straight game over the Sidney Recreation at Harmon field by the score of 7 to 5. Leo Poppe was again the winning hurler. Other members of the winning team are W. Bertsch, Reineke, Schlater, Anthony, Haney, and Leckey.

50 Years

Sept. 7, 1967

Miss Vicki Piper, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Piper, Pemberton, is now living in Seligman, Arizona, where she will be teaching the first grade in the Seligman Public School system.

25 Years

Sept. 7, 1992

NEW BREMEN – Erin Boyd, the 12-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Boyd, 313 N. Herman St., has qualified to participate with the All American Dancers in the Hula Bowl Performance Tour in Honolulu, Hawaii in January.

The All American Dancers will perform at the Hula Bowl pregame show and parade, in addition to dancing and tumbling during the nationally-televised college all-star football game on NBC.
