Sept. 29, 1892

The bridge where the C.H. & D. Railroad crosses the Big Four is being replaced by an iron structure. There will be but one track over the bridge, it having been decided to discontinue the use of the side track in front of the depot. The center span was placed in yesterday.

100 Years

Sept. 29, 1917

Dr. O.O. LeMaster, of Sidney, was named a member of the executive committee of the Second Councilor district of the Ohio State Medical association at its meeting in Dayton last night.

The Kingseed grocery on North Main avenue has been sold to M.R. Line and Earl Lee, with the new owners taking possession this morning. For 25 years Mr. Line has been a clerk in the Piper grocery, while Earl Lee, for an almost equal length of time, has been engaged in the retail business and in the sale of real estate in the city.

75 Years

Sept. 29, 1942

An old handmade iron safe, found in the rear portion of the William Crusey Shoe store in the Palmisano building on North Ohio avenue is being turned over to the scrap drive. The safe is believed to be nearly 100 years old and belonged to J.E. Frazier who operated a drug store at that location.

On the eve of the 1942 World Series, the New York Yankees were 2 to 1 favorites to win their eighth world’s baseball championship from the St. Louis Cardinals

50 Years

Sept. 29, 1967

Winter played an early engagement in the northern part of Shelby county this morning with snow being reported at a number of points.

Heavier snowfall was reported farther north with both Wapakoneta and Lima having snow on the ground and the weather observer at Pandora, Putnam county, reporting a half-inch. Both Jackson Center and Botkins reported some snow and the same situation prevailed in the northern part of Logan county, according to the State Highway Department.

25 Years

Sept. 29, 1992

Three local high school seniors are among more than 15,000 semi-finalists in the 1993 National Merit Scholarship Program announced by the National Merit Scholarship Corporation (NMSC).

Named semi-finalists were Lori T. Franklin, a Sidney High School student, and Lehman High School students Gregory A. Schmiesing and Matthew C. Schultz.

Miss Franklin is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Herbert Franklin, 1312 Spruce Ave.

Schmiesing is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Schmiesing, 9700 Sidney-Freyburg Road. Schultz is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Gary Schultz, 616 Westover St.
