Fire at Maplewood home under investigation

MAPLEWOOD —A fire at a Maplewood home on Thursday is under investigation.

According to Assistant Fire Chief Mike Lanton, someone passing by reported smoke and flames coming from the two-story structure at 2322 LeFevre Road, on Oct. 12, around 2 p.m.

Anna, Jackson Center, Van Buren TWP and Port Jefferson, DeGraff and Quincy responded to the scene. Sidney Medics and the Shelby County Sheriff Deputies also responded.

No one was home at the time of fire and there were no injuries. However, Lanton said three dogs died of smoke inhalation.

Lanton said the damage amount in unknown, but “the house is probably a total loss.”

The American Red Cross was called in to assist the two people displaced by the fire, Lanton said.

The cause of the fire is still unknown and under investigation at this time.
