Arson is cause of Wagner building fire

SIDNEY — Arson was determined to be the cause of a fire at the Wagner building on Thursday. The investigation was conducted by the Sidney-Shelby County Investigation Team.

According to the Sidney Department of Fire & Emergency Services’ press release, firefighters were dispatched to the area of 440 Fair Road on Oct. 26, at 12:16 p.m. on the report of smoke in the area, possibly coming from the building.

On arrival, firefighters found a large three-story vacant manufacturing building with light smoke showing. Upon investigation a fire was found on the first floor, near the front of the building.

Firefighters entered the building and were able to extinguish the fire within 15 minutes of arrival. The building was checked for extension to the other floors of the building, and nothing was found.

A box alarm was called recalling all off duty Sidney firefighters and mutual aid was received from Lockington and Anna Fire Departments. Perry Port Jefferson EMS responded and handled an EMS call during the fire incident.

There is no gas or power to the building, which is owned by Master Vision Polishing.

No injuries were reported by firefighters.
