Renewal levies on Tuesday’s ballot

SIDNEY — Voters across Shelby County will be going to the polls Tuesday, Nov. 7, to vote in the General Election. Numerous issues are up for renewal on the ballot.

Village levies

Port Jefferson and Lockington both have renewals before the voters.

In Port Jefferson, voters will be casting their vote for a renewal for fire protection. The 1 mill-levy will be used for payment of firefighting companies. The amount each property owner will be is 10 cents on every $100 of valuation. The three-year levy will begin in 2018 with the first collection coming in calendar year 2019.

Lockington voters will be voting on a operating expense levy renewal. The levy will not exceed 2.7 mills for each $1 of valuation, which amounts to 27 cents for each $100 of property valuation. The 5-year tax, if approved, will begin in 2018, with it being first due in calendar year 2019.

Township levies

Four townships have levy renewals on the ballot.

Green Township is seeking a renewal of an .8 mill and an increase of .2 mill for the purpose of ambulance and emergency medical services at a rate not exceeding 1 mill for each $1 of valuation, which amounts to 10 cents for each $100 of valuation. The five-year tax would begin in 2018 and be first due in calendar year 2019.

Loramie Township, Russia Fire District, is seeking a renewal of a 1.10 mills and an increase of of .64 mill levy to benefit the fire district. The funds will provide and maintain fire apparatus, appliances, buildings or sites, sources of water supply or payment of permanent, part-time or volunteer firefighters or firefighting companies. The levy rate won’t exceed 1.74 mills for each $1 of valuation, which amounts to .174 cents for each $100 of property valuation. The five-year levy would begin in 2017 and be first due in calendar year 2018.

Van Buren Township is seeking the renewal of a levy for the ambulance service and emergency medical service or both, not exceeding a .3 mill rate for each $1 of property valuation. The levy would begin in 2017 and be first due in calendar 2018.

Washington Township has two levies up for renewal.

The first is a renewal for the township (excluding the village of Lockington) for current operating expenses not to exceed .6 mills for each $1 of valuation, which amounts of 6 cents for each $100 of property valuation. The five-year levy would begin in 2018 with it first being due in calendar year 2019.

The second renewal for the township (excluding the village of Lockington) is for maintaining and improving all township roads. The levy rate won’t exceed 2 mills of each $1 of valuation, which amounts to 20 cents for each $100 of property valuation. The five-year levy would begin in 2018 with first collection in calendar year 2019.

School district

Fairlawn Local School District has placed a renewal levy on the ballot. The existing levy’s purpose of emergency requirements in the sum of $150,000 and a levy of taxes to be made outside the 10-mill limitation to average 2.1 mills for each $1 of valuation. This amounts to 211 cents for each $100 of valuation. The five-year levy would begin in 2018 with first collection in 2019.

Fire district

Loramie Fire District is asking for a renewal of a 1.5 mill levy for three years. The funds will be used for providing and maintaining apparatus, appliances, buildings or sites or sources of water supply, the establishment and maintenance of lines of fire alarm telegraph, and payment of permanent, part time or volunteer firefighters. The levy will collect 15 cents for each $100 of property valuation beginning in 2018 and due in calendar year 2019.

Ambulance district

Houston Joint ambulance district is seeking a renewal of a .4 mill levy for five years. If approved, the levy would collect 4 cents for each $100 of property valuation beginning in 2018 with first payment in calendar year 2019. The funds will be used for providing, operating and maintaining emergency and rescue equipment apparatus, appliances, buildings or sites.
