United Way accepting Day of Action projects

SIDNEY — Annually, United Way Worldwide facilitates the National Day of Action to engage community volunteers to complete service projects in their local communities. Shelby County United Way will be participating once again during the week of June 18-22.

“We are currently accepting applications for projects,” said Executive Director Scott Barr. “Not for profit, civic, or government organizations are eligible to participate and submit a project request form. Project forms should be submitted to the Shelby County United Way Office by March 30. An eligible organization can request a project request form by contacting the Shelby County United Way at 492-2101.”

In June 2017, 14 companies and 214 employees provided 856.5 volunteer hours on 16 service projects throughout Sidney and Shelby County. Most projects were completed in just one day. Some of the 16 projects completed included renovating the dressing rooms in the lower level of the Sidney Theater, painting multiple park shelter houses, picnic tables, and playground equipment, mulching and landscaping at various locations throughout the city, building a new playground set at the domestic violence shelter, staining the ramp at the Historical Society, and interior painting and window washing at the Family Resource Center.

“2017 was a huge success. Our goal is to increase the number of service projects completed this year by adding additional participating companies,” said Barr.

If an organization would like to request a project form, or a company would like to volunteer contact Barr at the United Way office 492-2101 or [email protected].
