SIDNEY — Joe Ratermann, a newcomer to Sidney City Council, who was the second-highest vote-getter Tuesday among four candidates for at-large council seats, said he was “thankful for the opportunity to serve.”

“I’m thankful for the opportunity to serve on Sidney City Council with the other excellent members of the council who care so much about our city,” Ratermann said Wednesday morning.

Mayor Mike Barhorst was overwhelmingly re-elected to one of the three at-large seats on council, garnering 3,258 votes, according to unofficial results. Ratermann got 2,298 votes. Incumbent Janet Born also was re-elected, with 1,988 votes. Longtime Councilman Rick Sims, with 1,933 votes, was defeated.
