WAPAKONETA — A former Auglaize County Sheriff’s Office road officer has resigned amid allegations of assault and sexual imposition, Sheriff Al Solomon said in a statement released Monday.

Solomon said his office was made aware of an incident that occurred during the evening hours of Dec. 9 and early morning hours of Dec. 10 in which allegations were made against Sgt. Brian Vernon.

The allegations stem from an incident that occurred while Vernon was off duty and did not occur on Auglaize County property, the sheriff said.

Solomon said that once his office was made aware of the allegations, Vernon was immediately placed on administrative leave. An outside agency conducted an investigation into the matter, and on March 5, Vernon voluntarily resigned from the sheriff’s office.

Charges pending against Vernon include assault, a first-degree misdemeanor, and sexual imposition, a third-degree misdemeanor. Since criminal charges have been filed and the investigation is ongoing, the sheriff said he is unable to comment any further at this time.
