Smokey Bear to visit event

FORT LORAMIE — The Shelby Soil and Water Conservation’s annual Forestry Field Day will be held Sunday, Oct. 21, from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Denny Ziegenbusch Farm, 5582 State Route 705, Fort Loramie.

Smokey Bear will be at the event at 2:30 p.m. A candy scramble for the kids will begin at 2:15 p.m. There will also be woodland crafts and activities for the kids.

Visitors will be able to hike the woodland trails, see a portable sawmill in operation, see a pollinator and honey bee display, rope making demonstrations, and learn about habitat improvement from a Pheasants Forever wildlife biologist.

A representative from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources will also be present. The forestry will walk the woods and answer questions about timber management, invasive insects and tree identification.

There will be free hot dogs, apples and beverages while supplies last.
