HOUSTON – Thirty-six Houston-UVCC FFA members traveled to the Columbus Expo Center to receive numerous awards on May 2-3. The chapter was recognized as a Top 10 Chapter in the state of Ohio and the No. 1 Chapter in the state in the area of Growing Leaders. This ranking is based on the activities members conduct throughout the year.

Five members received State Proficiency awards for excellence in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences. Wyatt Mohler placed first in Beef Production and third in Diversified Crop Production. Katelynn Garber placed first in Home and Community Development. Eliza Mertz placed first in Nursery Operations. Isaac Stephenson placed first in Landscape Management. Kelci Cooper placed first in Small Animal Production and Care. All five individuals will qualify to the national competition where their applications will be evaluated to determine if they are national finalists at the National FFA Convention in October.

FFA members Wyatt Mohler and Isaac Stephenson qualified and were recognized as Star State Degree Finalists due to their high achievements in their Supervised Agricultural Experiences, Mohler in placement and Stephenson in Agribusiness.

Three members qualified and competed in the State Agriscience Fair. Megan Maier and Oliviah Smith competed in the area of Food Products and Processing. Delia Adkins competed in the area of Power Systems Technology and was a state-runner up.

Members Liam McKee, Cody Selanders and Collin Walker competed in the Ohio FFA State Band where they performed for attendees throughout the State FFA Convention.

Three members of the officer team received Gold Rated Officer Books for excellence in their respective offices. Drew Walker received a Gold Rated Secretary’s Book, Jessica Monnier received a Gold Rated Treasurer’s Book and Katelynn Garber received a Gold Rated Reporter’s Book.

Seven members received their State FFA Degree. The State degree is the highest honor the Ohio FFA Association can bestow on its members. These members are: Shelby Ayers, Dominic Beaver, Alex Freytag, Katelynn Garber, Hannah Hollinger, Josh Langenkamp and Jon Steiner.
