ARCHBOLD — A new “Agriculture Adventures” event will be held June 14 – 19 at Sauder Village – offering guests an opportunity to learn more about Ohio’s rich agricultural heritage. From egg candling, shelling corn, and working with oxen to making cheese, meeting farm animals and learning about tractors … each day of this week-long event will have different farm-themed demonstrations, special programs and hands-on activities.

“Sharing this region’s agriculture heritage in authentic ways is vital to our educational efforts,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations. “We also want our guests to learn more about modern methods and how agriculture impacts every area of our lives today. This new event will be a great opportunity for people to learn so much about poultry, beef, pork, crops and dairy through historical farming and cooking demonstrations, exhibits about modern agriculture and fun hands-on experiences.”

This new event will begin on Tuesday, June 14 with Poultry Day. The Fulton County Poultry Princess will be at the Village and guests can help gather eggs, participate in an egg toss, watch egg candling, and learn about historic egg preservation. Wednesday, June 15 is Beef Day with beef-themed recipes prepared in the historic homes, a “Cow 101” program in the Grime Barn and the opportunity to learn more about the beef industry from an Ohio Beef Ambassador. Thursday is Pork Day with a chance to meet the pigs, learn about today’s pork industry, watch pork-themed food demonstrations and more! Representatives from Soy Ohio and the Ohio Corn and Wheat Association will be at the Village on Friday, June 17 for Crop Day. Guests can try cracking/shelling corn, watch corn cultivating demonstrations, attend an “A-maize-ing” corn program and learn more about how Native Americans used corn. Farm-themed story-time and craft activities will also be offered for young guests each day at Little Pioneers Homestead.

Many activities are planned on Saturday, June 18 for the Dairy Day of this event and the Tractors, Tractors, Tractors event. The Fulton County Dairy Ambassador will be at the Village to talk with guests and there will be cow milking, cream separating and cheese making demonstrations. Guests can help make hand-cranked ice-cream, try a fun “butter” mold/carving activity and watch other dairy-themed cooking activities. Guests will also get an up-close look at both historic and modern farming equipment. Thanks to Archbold Equipment there will be modern farming equipment on display – providing guests the opportunity to get an up-close look at farming equipment of today. Again this year more than 70 antique tractors will be on display in the Historic Village. The historic tractors are from the 1930s to the 1960s. There will also be a Pedal Tractor Pull for children to enjoy.

The final day of this event is Sunday, June 19 with “Meet the Animals” programs scheduled throughout the afternoon as well as story-time and craft activity. The modern farming equipment will also be on display throughout the afternoon. Sunday, June 19 is also Father’s Day – with free admission to Sauder Village for all Dads!
