ARCHBOLD – Imagine a field in Ohio’s rural countryside filled with antique farm equipment working side-by-side to harvest fields of wheat. This summer, antique tractor lovers will see this dream come to life as Sauder Village and the Massey Collector’s Association host “The Great Harvest Northwest Ohio” on Friday, July 7 and Saturday, July 8, at Sauder Village in Archbold, OH.

During this two-day event at Sauder Village, Massey Collectors will gather with their antique farm equipment to help harvest the wheat that was planted last fall on 100 acres of farmland around Sauder Village. Collectors of Wallis, Massey Harris, Ferguson and Massey Ferguson and other antique tractor lovers from throughout the Midwest are expected to participate and watch this amazing farming demonstration of days-gone-by. Antique combines and farm implements will be used during this two-day event. There will also be antique tractors on display. Wheat harvest is weather dependant, so guests are encouraged to visit www.saudervillage.org or call 800-590-9755 to confirm plans for the weekend.

“Preserving and sharing this region’s agricultural heritage in authentic ways is a vital part of our educational efforts at Sauder Village,” shared Kim Krieger, Media Relations. “We want to help our guests understand how innovation, technology, and hard work in farming isn’t just “history”, but continues in amazing ways today. We were happy to host the Great Planting last fall and we’re excited about the scope of the Great Harvest event this summer. We look forward to welcoming many tractor collectors and other guests to Sauder Village for this spectacular farming event!”

While there will be no admission fee charged to view the planting in the fields on Friday and Saturday, guests are encouraged to make this a one or two day get-away to enjoy the old-time planting demonstrations and also take time to experience Ohio’s historic past at Ohio’s largest living-history village (fee charged for admission to the Historic Village). Also taking place this weekend at Sauder Village is the Laura Ingalls Wilder Weekend featuring all kinds of “Little House on The Prairie” themed activities. Guests will have an opportunity to dip candles, churn butter, make a rag doll, participate in an old-fashioned spell down, enjoy “Little House on the Prairie” stories and more! And just for fun, guests who come in pioneer-themed costuming for the day will receive free admission in celebration of the 150th Anniversary of Laura’s birthday.

“Whether you have plans to participate or just want to see this amazing gathering of antique tractors at work, we’re sure this will be a fantastic opportunity for tractor-lovers to gather in northwest Ohio,” Krieger added.

“The Great Harvest Northwest Ohio” is co-hosted by the Massey Collector’s Association and Sauder Village. Event co-sponsors include Rupp Seeds of Pettisville, OH and Tri-Flo Propane & Fertilizer of Archbold, Ohio. All of the Great Harvest activities are weather permitting.
