SIDNEY — Shaffer Metal Fab Inc. is a contract manufacturer specializing in sheet metal fabrication, precision machining, and powder coating. Shaffer started the year off under new ownership looking to build upon the successful tradition and foundation established under the leadership of Mike Shaffer and Steve Shaffer. As a third generation owner, Ryan Shaffer and business partner Chad Geuy assumed control of the company on Jan. 1, 2020.

Sheffer and Geuy have submitted the following report:

The focus for 2020 was to continue the business practices already established and incorporate fundamental lean business principals into the operation. It is essential that our customers can be confident that we are an extension of their operation. Shaffer has implemented many changes to the operation to improve quality, on-time delivery, efficiencies, and training. A strong focus on continuous improvement will remain essential for our continued growth.

One of the biggest accomplishments of 2020 was seeing the entire team at Shaffer step up during a time of uncertainty. The knowledge and experience from the dedicated employees allowed Shaffer to continue to produce even when we were short staffed due to the pandemic. Amongst the uncertainty of the economy the entire team accepted the transition of ownership as well as embraced the changes made in the operations. Although there were many challenges throughout the year, every employee was willing to learn and train others to ensure daily operations were not impacted. We will be looking to build upon this teamwork in the future and we will be forever grateful for their efforts.

Developing new business opportunities was a challenge as many businesses implemented visitor restrictions due to COVID-19. Our sales manager, Skip Murray worked diligently to overcome these challenges and continued supporting all of our customers’ needs. Through these efforts we were fortunate enough to have a strong year in sales resulting in growth from the previous year. Most of our sales volume was generated from business serving the lighting, material handling, automotive, furniture, store fixturing, and food equipment industries.

Shaffer looks to stay strong in 2021 as new ownership is working on a possible expansion as well as investing in additional equipment to further increase capacities and support future growth. With the possible expansion and increased capacity, Shaffer will be looking for qualified individuals to join its fast growing and experienced team. Shaffer is always accepting applications which can be submitted in person or online at shaffermetalfab.com
