Airstream to produce Nest trailer

JACKSON CENTER — Airstream, a subsidiary of Thor Industries Inc., has announced it has reached an agreement to acquire the assets of Nest Caravans, a start-up company proposing a brilliantly-designed compact travel trailer.

The move is part of Airstream’s growth strategy to expand its product offering to the molded fiberglass segment of the industry that will provide incremental growth to the company and welcome a new customer to Airstream looking for something more automotive, lighter and modern.

Nest, founded by designer Robert Johans, was created to appeal to customers who appreciate good design and the great outdoors, which falls perfectly in line with Airstream’s core values. Airstream will apply the same quality, durability and innovative engineering to Nest as it has to its own travel trailers for the last 85 years.

“We’ve been dreaming about a small, well-thought-out fiberglass travel trailer for quite some time and are very confident about its potential,” said Airstream President Bob Wheeler. “Nest is a product that conveys sophistication, simplicity and upscale modernity, so it made sense for us to partner and help bring this design to market.”

According to Nest Caravans President Robert Johans, “Our intent has been to introduce real innovation and quality to the lightweight travel trailer market segment. We are delighted to have Airstream embrace our vision.”

Airstream will announce a production location and timing of the launch in the months ahead.
