FORT LORAMIE — Kat’s Canine Corner saw growth and change in 2016. According to owner Kathryn Burks, the major change was their new location at 60 E. Elm St. in Fort Loramie. Having purchased the building there, Burks can offer her customers a quiet location with easy access and off street parking.
Burks’s report continues:
While the address changed, the daily operation of the business remained the same with high quality, pet friendly grooming. Due to increased business and a larger clientele, during the past year, Karol Paulus has joined the company as a groomer two days a week. Customers know Paulus not only as a top notch show dog groomer but also as a trainer.
Both Paulus and I have a long history of grooming, training, and showing dogs. I first started raising and showing Shihtzus while Paulus first showed a Doberman Pinscher. Decades later, both of us now show Briards. My Briard bitch, Storm, earned a select title at the Sunshine State Herding Association in Florida last month. Paulus has been inducted into the Briard Hall of Fame three times. One of her Briards, a male called Necco, has earned eight legs and only needs two more for the UDX (Utility Dog Excellent) title.
When they train “ordinary” dogs — people’s pets — in obedience techniques, they tackle the problems of normal dogs: barking, chewing on furniture, jumping on people. The women agreed, “We can’t fix everything for everybody, but no one can say that the dog isn’t better at the end of our course.”
Kat’s Canine Corner has offered obedience classes since the business first came to Fort Loramie. The five week, basic obedience classes will continue in 2017 with the first course planned for the end of February. Kat’s Canine Corner is open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday and some Saturdays. For an appointment, call 937-726-3088.
