SIDNEY — Continental Express Inc., based out of Sidney, Ohio, is a privately held logistics company specializing in the truckload transport of temperature-sensitive food product. 2016 marked Continental Express’s 32nd year in business under the leadership of Russell Gottemoeller.

Continental Express’s corporate headquarters are located just west of Sidney on State Route 47. The Sidney headquarters are home to the majority of the company’s management and administrative personnel and the fleet’s largest pool of truck drivers. Continental Express has terminals located in Gaffney, South Carolina; Fort Worth, Texas; Danville, Virginia; Louisville, Kentucky; and a dedicated operation in Portland, Oregon. The company plans to expand upon its terminal location network in 2017.

Gottemoeller’s report continues:

In 2016, the company expanded its dedicated operations and customer base out of its Sidney headquarters and its terminal locations. The company has focused largely on its dedicated operations as it continues to work with its customers to provide a “total logistics solution.”

Continental Express has approximately 550 employees throughout the United States. Several Continental Express employees reached exciting milestones with the company in 2016. George Hefner, a veteran Continental driver who has been with the organization for nearly 20 years, reached a record of traveling 2 million miles accident-free with Continental Express in 2016. That’s the equivalent of traveling 80 times around the earth without a single accident. Continental driver John Boyd, also reached a record of traveling 1 million miles accident-free with Continental Express in 2016. Both drivers were awarded with a trip, a monetary award and a plaque for their safety and service.

Beyond celebrating its safe drivers, Continental put an extra emphasis on safety in 2016 by purchasing a fleet-wide industry-leading online safety system. The safety program is an interactive learning tool for all of its drivers. It was a large investment for Continental Express, but the company is intensely focused on safety and is dedicated to ensuring that its drivers are among the safest drivers on the road.

Training leads to increased safety, more efficient operations and an overall better organization.

The company also purchased approximately 50 new 2017 Freightliner Cascadia semi-tractors in 2016. Many of these trucks are equipped with collision avoidance and active braking technology. These trucks are also known for their aerodynamic features. Continental will replace some older model trucks with these new vehicles and the company will add to its existing fleet numbers. The company takes pride in providing its drivers and customers with new and well-maintained equipment.

The year 2016 was a good one. I am surrounded by many dedicated and talented employees who contributed to the company’s success. I am excited for 2017 and the new opportunities and challenges that it will bring.
