Dairy Queen to give free cones

MINNEAPOLIS — The Dairy Queen system is serving up a sweet deal to thank fans and celebrate the first day of spring with a Free Cone Day.

On March 20, participating nonmall Dairy Queen and DQ Grill & Chill locations in the U.S. will host a Free Cone Day, when fans can enjoy a free, small, vanilla, soft-serve cone with the signature curl on top. At the same time, participating locations also will collect donations for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.

“Soft serve is part of our brand DNA and the taste is unmatchable. The DQ soft-serve cone fans have come to love is one of the most recognized treats in the world and is fondly referred to as the ‘cone with the curl on top,’” said Barry Westrum, executive vice president of marketing for American Dairy Queen Corp. “We can’t think of a better way to show our appreciation to fans, kick off the spring season and support such an amazing cause than with a Free Cone Day.”

Over the last 32 years, the Dairy Queen system of locations that are franchised by ADQ, a Berkshire Hathaway company, has raised more than $120 million for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals in local communities.

“We’re excited and ready to go for our third annual Free Cone Day,” added Westrum. “Free cones have become a fan tradition — they love it. The icing on the cake is supporting Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.”

Last year, the Dairy Queen system raised more than $200,000 in one day for Children’s Miracle Network Hospitals.
