Pet Valu to help SCARF

PHILADELPHIA — Pet Valu, a specialty retailer of premium pet food, treats, toys and accessories, will hold a Thanks for Giving collection drive throughout the month of November to raise awareness of and collect food and supplies for local shelters and rescues.

According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, more than 7.6 million companion animals enter animal shelters nationwide each year. Customers are encouraged to make monetary donations either in store or via PayPal and to drop off food and supplies for pets at their local Pet Valu stores.

“Shelters are desperately in need of pet supplies and food throughout the year, and it’s important to not forget them during the busy holiday months,” said Joe Dent, vice president and U.S. general manager for Pet Valu. “We’re hopeful this collection drive will stock their shelves and carry them through to the new year.”

Each Pet Valu store will identify a local shelter or rescue to be the recipient of the collection, ensuring that customers’ donations stay in their communities. The Sidney Pet Valu store, 2244 Michigan St., has selected the Shelby County Animal Rescue Foundation (SCARF) as its recipient. SCARF, in turn, supports the Shelby County Animal Shelter.
