Magistrate volunteers in Worthington

SIDNEY — Magistrate Gary J. Carter of the Shelby County Common Pleas Court, and about 30 other magistrates from around the state of Ohio, recently donated two hours of their time to assist low income people at the Worthington Resource Center, a food pantry in Worthington.

The magistrates were in Columbus attending a three-day seminar sponsored by the Supreme Court of Ohio Judicial College. The magistrates do a volunteer project each year, because they believe in leaving each community they visit better than they found it. In addition to donating more than 100 pounds of food, the magistrates painted walls, moved storage lockers and helped people load groceries into their cars.

Carter said he enjoyed the experience, stating that it reminded him of his high school days, when he was a bag boy at a local grocery store. The magistrates also completed more than 14 hours of required, continuing legal education, by attending the conference.
