FORT LORAMIE — Fans of scented candles now have a new place to purchase them.

Janet (Behr) Fickert, of Fort Loramie, and her husband, Tim, have opened Janet’s Candles and Accessories at 83 Eastview Drive. As an independent consultant for Gold Canyon Candles, Janet will sell them from that location and at home parties.

She will celebrate a grand opening Oct. 23 from 4 to 8 p.m., Oct. 24 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Oct. 25 from noon to 4 p.m.

“I had (been a Gold Canyon Candle consultant) previously, when I lived in Celina,” she said recently. “When I moved back here, I had a full-time job. A few years later, I decided to get back into it. I really like their candles.” Fickert continues to work part time at a day care center.

Gold Canyon candles are special, she said, because the scent goes all the way through the candle.

“Whether you light it at the beginning, middle or end, you still have scent all the way through,” Fickert said. Most of the candles have two wicks, which prevents the wax from burning a hole down the center of the pillar.

“And they have a safety wick that will extinguish itself at the bottom of the candle,” she added.

Her shop, which she has outfitted in a building behind her residence, sports shelves blossoming with heritage jar candles, tea lights and votives in a variety of colors and scents. There are also ceramic and metal candleholders in holiday themes for Halloween, autumn, Christmas, Easter and more.

A row of pink jar candles fills one shelf. Sales of those support breast cancer research.

In addition to selling from her shop, Fickert will lead home parties.

“They’re called ‘scent mixers,’” she said. “And I have done book parties. I send so many books to people doing it. They have so much time to take orders. Then I send them in. Within a week, I have the stuff.”

The Fort Loramie High School graduate has also supplied candles for clubs to sell as fundraisers.

Along with the candles and candleholders, Fickert offers car fresheners and pod warmers..

After the grand opening weekend, the shop will be open by appointment. For visit or to book a party, call 419-733-3515.
