SIDNEY — In 2017 Choice One remained a leader in civil engineering and surveying. Operating three locations including Sidney, Ohio, Loveland, Ohio, and Portland, Indiana, with licensure in Ohio, Indiana, Kentucky and Illinois. Choice One’s client base reaches much of Western Ohio as well as communities in Eastern Indiana.

With the addition of five new employees, Choice One has grown to 41 employees, two of which received their Professional Engineer’s license in 2017. Choice One now has 13 professional engineers and three professional surveyors.

For the third year in a row, Choice One was awarded the No. 1 Best Civil Engineering Firm to Work For in the Nation by Civil + Structural Engineer magazine, a leading industry publication.

“The culture at Choice One is driven by our employees,” said President Matt Hoying. “They put so much more into what we do than just engineering and surveying. They add teamwork, family, enjoyment, responsiveness, and empowerment. Our employees are encouraged to think, feel, and act like owners. It’s because of this ownership we are able to provide a fulfilling life for a lifetime to everyone we come in contact with, especially our clients and employees.”

His report continues:

Some notable local projects Choice One worked on this year were: Newport Sanitary Sewer, Shelby County; County Road 25A, Phase II, Tipp City; 30” Raw Water Transmission Main, Sidney; North Market Street Reconstruction, Phase II, Troy; Shelby County Animal Shelter Construction, Sidney; Amos Memorial Public Library Renovations, Sidney; Downtown Riverscape, Wapakoneta; Commerce Drive Bridge, Russia; Main Street Traffic Signal Replacement, Fort Loramie; and Young Street Reconstruction, Phase II, Anna.

The Choice One team donated $33,246.12 to the 2017 Shelby County United Way campaign – an average of $852.46 per employee. The United Way does a great job supporting the communities we live and work in, and our employees are proud to support them in their goal. We encourage community involvement and it never ceases to amaze me how willing our employees are to help.

Each year, the Choice One Charity Cup brings together clients, colleagues, and friends in a fun atmosphere that includes a team bucketball tournament. The winning team takes home the coveted traveling trophy as well as an award to donate to a charity of their choice. At the 17th annual Sidney area Charity Cup, clients and friends jumped into action raising money for the event’s beneficiary, the Miami Valley Down Syndrome Association. The theme for the night was “Super Heroes,” and Choice One’s clients did not back down from the fundraising efforts! They rallied enough money for families of the organization to spend a day at Young’s Jersey Dairy. They also raised funds for three local veterans to partake in an Honor Flight to Washington D.C. to visit their respective monuments. With everyone’s kindness, $6,560.00 was raised that night.

Choice One also hosted their first Loveland area Charity Cup. The beneficiary, Sweet Cheeks Diaper Bank, is the only diaper bank serving the entire Greater Cincinnati area helping fill the diaper need gap. Because of the generosity of our Clients, $3,904 was raised. That’s 30,030 diapers, nearly 70 percent of the Diaper Bank’s normal distribution, for families in need!

“We value each other, our clients, and the communities we work in. We were very fortunate to enjoy another great year in 2017 and look forward to being able to share a successful 2018.
