Floor Store opens downtown

SIDNEY — Billy Olding and his wife, Nikki, of Sidney, have opened the Floor Store at 106 E. Poplar St.

Olding comes by his passion for carpets and linoleum naturally. He is a third-generation vendor of floor coverings. His grandfather, Bill Olding, owned American Upholstery. His father, Bill Olding, owned Sidney Floors and Interiors. The third Bill Olding graduated from Houston High School in 1988 and went right to work in the family business.

“When Dad retired, we started in a building in Troy,” he said recently.

“We had a storefront in Troy until we found one in Sidney,” Nikki said.

Sidney Floors and Interiors closed when the second Bill Olding retired and sold the building the store was in.

“We found a different one. It happened to be in Troy,” Nikki said.

The new business offers “anything that goes on the floor,” she added, “carpeting, tile, linoleum, laminate, hardwood.” The retailers also provide custom tile showers and custom tile backsplashes.

The store employs two people besides the Oldings.

“All our business in Sidney is all word-of-mouth. It’s been like that for 40 years,” Bill said.

They celebrated a ribbon-cutting ceremony this week.
