CELINA, Ohio (AP) — An armed man who police say ordered an Ohio trooper out of his car before the trooper shot him to death has had at least two previous run-ins with the State Highway Patrol.

Court records show that 22-year-old Justin McHenry was stopped by troopers in 2012 and 2014 and charged with driving under the influence.

A patrol spokesman said Monday that investigators don’t know what prompted the confrontation in the western Ohio city of Celina.

Investigators say trooper Brandon Chaney was filling out paperwork in his parked cruiser when McHenry parked nearby and ordered the trooper to get out. The patrol says McHenry then pointed a 9mm handgun at the trooper.

Patrol officials say the trooper tried to disarm McHenry before shooting him.
