Sheriff’s log

MONDAY

-4:20 to 5:48 p.m.: IRS scam. The Sheriff’s Office received numerous complaints about a scam involving callers claiming to be with the Internal Revenue Service.

-12:31 p.m.: theft. The owner of 21489 Maplewood reported tenants game away a washer and dryer at their rental unit.

SUNDAY

-9:56 p.m.: property-damage accident. A vehicle was stuck on the railroad tracks on Ferree Road in Perry Township.

-6:17 p.m.: property-damage accident. An auto accident was reported in the 2000 block of West Mason Road.

-3:42 p.m.: property-damage accident. A vehicle hit a pole at West Mason Road and state Route 29.

-3:18 p.m.: vandalism. Someone threw an ice ball at a vehicle’s window in the 18000 block of state Route 706.

SATURDAY

-5:17 a.m.: stolen vehicle. Robert “Austin” Blankenship, 8460 Houston Road, Houston, reported his vehicle was stolen Friday evening.

-9 a.m.: theft. Several antique cooking containers were stolen from the back porch of a pole barn at 4785 Tawawa-Maplewood Road.

-8:06 p.m.: theft. Theft from a vehicle was reported at 310 Diamond Drive, Anna.

Fire, rescue

TUESDAY

-10:36 a.m.: medical. Anna Rescue was called to the 100 block of Diamond Drive, Anna.

MONDAY

-6:39 p.m.: house full of smoke. Firefighters were called to 3401 Chickasaw Court in Washington Township on a report that the house was full of smoke. Firefighters determined a corn-burning stove was malfunctioning. Houston, Lockington, Port Jefferson and Sidney Fire and Houston Rescue responded.

-10:52 a.m.: fire. Van Buren Township Fire and Botkins Police investigated a fire at 9441 State Route 119.

-4:21 a.m.: medical. Anna Rescue was called to the 100 block of South Mill Street, Botkins.

-1:51 a.m.: medical. Anna Rescue was called to the 400 block of West State Street, Botkins.

Accidents

Cody James Coffman, 23, 10673 Schenk Road, Sidney, was cited for failure to control following a one-vehicle accident Saturday at 4:02 p.m.

Coffman was traveling northwest in the 2000 block of Fair Road and was attempting to negotiate a curve in the road. The vehicle was traveling too fast for the curve and left the roadway, striking a road sign and private fence.

His 2003 Nissan Maxima sustained functional damage.

• James Robert Ruvalcaba, 41, 207 E. Bremen St., New Knoxville, was cited for a stop sign violation following a two-vehicle accident Saturday at 3:17 p.m.

Ruvalcaba was southbound on state Route 29 when he failed to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of state Route 274. He struck a vehicle driven by Linda M. Hoelscher, 65, 403 S. Mill St., New Knoxville, who was traveling eastbound on state Route 274. She was waiting to turn north onto state Route 29.

Ruvalcaba’s vehicle, a 2007 Hyundai Sonata, which is owned by Ladonna F. Hufford, 207 E. Bremen St., New Knoxville, sustained disabling damage in the accident and was towed from the scene. Hoelscher’s vehicle, a 2008 Mercury Bobcat owned by Douglas M. Hoelscher, 403 S. Mill St., New Knoxville, sustained disabling damage and was towed from the scene.

When the deputy advised dispatch of Ruvalcaba’s personal information, he was advised that Ruvalcaba had an active warrant out of California for a probation violation. Ruvalcaba was transported to the Shelby County Jail.
