BELLEFONTAINE — The Logan County Sheriff’s Office is investigating a shooting that left a teen dead.

WDTN, a news partner of the Sidney Daily News, reported deputies responded to a home in Bloomfield Township just before 4 a.m. Sunday on reports of gunfire. A 16-year-old victim was taken to Mary Rutan Hospital in Bellefontaine where he later died.

It is unclear what exactly happened and what led to the shooting. Officials are still investigating.

Contacted by the Sidney Daily News Sunday evening, Logan County Sheriff Andy Smith said he expects to release more information about the incident Monday. “We hope to be able to provide more details in the morning,” Smith said in an email.

Deputies, troopers from the Ohio State Highway Patrol, and Bellefontaine Police all responded to the incident.

WHIO reported Sunday afternoon that Smith said there was no need for the public to be alarmed about its safety as a result of the incident. Smith said he was in communication with the county prosecutor about the case.

Bloomfield Township is located in western Logan County and borders Shelby County.
