SIDNEY — A local man is currently serving a 90-day jail sentence in the Shelby County Jail for a sex crime.

Michael Buchanan, 25, formerly of Botkins, now living in Minster, was indicted last summer on one count of gross sexual imposition, a felony of the third-degree. According to court records, he pleaded guilty to the charge on July 31 and then the judge ordered Buchanan to undergo a psycho-sexual evaluation.

The charges stemmed from an incident where Buchanan had sexual contact with a female under the age of 13 in 2006.

As part of his sentence, Buchanan had to pay a $500 fine and will have to register his address with the police as a sex offender for 25 years.

A source, that wished to remain anonymous, said, “Buchanan’s mother babysat for a lot of children and the sexual abuse (by Buchanan) happened while they were in her care. There is a fear that this could have happened to other children and there are more victims. Hopefully, if there are, they will come forward.”
