SIDNEY — The man found guilty for failure to stop after an accident by jury trial in July was sentenced to serve 45 days in jail, with one day credit, five years of community control, drug and alcohol treatment, a $400 fine, and the Thinking For a Change Program.

Kenneth Gene Burks, 49, of Sidney, was involved in a two-vehicle accident at the intersection of Kuther and Schenk roads on Aug. 2, 2015, at 2:22 a.m.

Upon the arrival of law enforcement to the accident Burks had left the area and John F. Reedy, 61, of Piqua, the driver of the other vehicle, was injured and barely able to move, The Sidney Daily News reported at the time.

Preliminary investigation revealed the Reedy pickup truck was northbound on Kuther Road. The Burks car was westbound on Schenk Road. The car ran the stop sign and struck the truck.

Burks was also cited for traffic control device in which he received a $25 fine and $111 costs, and reasonable control, $25 fine, in Sidney Municipal Court.

Others who recently appeared for sentencing:

• Brooke Schutte, 21, of Sidney, was sentenced to serve 45 days in jail with two days credit, on one count of attempted child endangerment, a felony of the fourth degree. She was originally charged with one count of child endangerment, a felony of the third degree, after failing to obtain proper medical treatment for her infant after the baby received serious physical injured from abusive behavior. She was also ordered to complete five years of community control, and mental health and parental counseling.

• Jeffery Jackson, 33, of Sidney, was sentenced to 45 days in jail each on two counts of trafficking in drugs, felonies of the fourth degree, to be served concurrently, as well as five years of community control. He was originally also charged with one count of possessing criminal tools, but that charge was dismissed as part of a guilty-plea agreement. He and his brother, Nathaniel Jackson, 30, were arrested on May 2 after the Shelby County Sheriff’s Office Special Response Team executed a narcotics search warrant at 829 Mount Vernon Place in Sidney.

Nathaniel was sentenced to serve 30 days in jail on each count, to be served concurrently, with two days credit, and was ordered to complete five years of community control.
