SIDNEY — The Shelby County Sheriff’s Office would like to remind our citizens of a scam that is currently going on.

“In recent weeks we have received numerous calls from residents that have been receiving calls from the following number 419-830-0120,” said Sheriff John Lenhart in a press release.

The caller is informing the owner that they have won a large sum of money, which has been in the millions. Their informed all they have to do to receive the prize is send money to a specific address. The money they are to send is thousands, and once you send it they will release your winnings.

“This is a scam to get you to send money to the caller, which in turn you will not receive; any prize and they will just take your hard earned money. If you are receiving these types of calls please give us a call so we can document it,” said Lenhart.

“If you are really entitled to some winnings you will never be asked to send in money to receive money. So be aware and do not give them any personal information such as a social security number or bank account numbers,” he said

Also, the Sheriff”s Office has received some complaints regarding the IRS scam; the number that has been calling is 914-303-6392.

“The IRS will not call you they will only correspond by mail, do not fall for them saying they will arrest you and do not give out any information,” said Lenhart.
