Columbus police investigate homicide

COLUMBUS — The Columbus Police Department is investigating the shooting of a 21-year-old Columbus man who died May 6.

According to the police department, Dean Joaquin Mendiola Peredo died at Riverside Methodist Hospital after being shot in an apartment at 6194 Busch Blvd., Columbus, around 6:22 p.m. He was transported to the hospital where he died at 7:13 p.m.

The police department received a call that someone had been shot at the apartment. When police arrived on the scene, they discovered Peredo had been shot and was in extremely critical condition.

The death is being investigated as a homicide. It’s the city’s 46th homicide of 2017.

The suspect in the shooting has been identified. Police continue to gather information from witnesses and the suspect has been interviewed by detectives. The case remains under investigation.

Funeral services for Peredo will be held Thursday, May 11, at 6 p.m. at Cromes-Edwards Funeral Home, 302 S. Main Ave., Sidney, with Pastor Mike Mitchell officiating. The family has requested friends to visit from 4 p.m. up until the time of service.
