SIDNEY — VFW Post 4239 of Sidney, along with its Auxiliary, awarded nine scholarships to young people who are completing their high school careers and getting ready to begin the next chapter of their lives. The scholarships were one-time awards of $500 to be used to further their education.

“This is what the VFW really likes to do. It’s one of the core reasons the VFW exists, to support VFW members and their families,” said Commander Dennis Thatcher.

A total of eight scholarships were awarded by the Post, with an additional one awarded by the Auxiliary. This is a list of those who received these awards: Preston Branscum of Sidney (sponsored by Cecil Branscum), Michael Bunker of Sidney (sponsored by Tam and Karen Beavers), Alyxis Carpenter of Delphos (sponsored by Bill and Myra Carpenter), Alexjandria Goodloe of Sidney (sponsored by Dina Thuma), Ethan Homan of Wapakoneta (sponsored by Mike Homan), Rori Malloy of Marysville (sponsored by Dennis Thatcher), Nathan Miu of Sidney (sponsored by Cloyd Miller), Coltin Rose of Botkins (sponsored by Sam Rose), and Destiny Stuck of Loveland (sponsored by Terry Brunson).

In addition to the scholarship winners, the Auxiliary also recognized and presented a check to Kristen Brunswick, a senior at Anna High School, for her award-winning work submitted in the Patriotic Art contest.
