SIDNEY — Two funds administered by the Community Foundation of Shelby County recently awarded scholarships.

The Elaine Laughlin Scholarship Fund awarded $1,000 each to Anna High School graduate Mackenzie Scully and Russia High School graduate Dion Puthoff.

Scully is the daughter of Chad and Tracy Scully, of Anna. She is majoring in education at Miami University. Puthoff is a pursuing a degree in chemical engineering at the University of Dayton. He is the son of Al and Mary Jo Puthoff, of Houston.

The Elaine Laughlin Scholarship was created by family and friends after the passing of the Houston High School graduate and teacher. It awards scholarships to graduates from throughout Shelby County.

Luke Dahlinghaus, a recent graduate of Russia High School, was awarded the Layton Family Foundation Scholarship of $1,000. He is majoring in computer science at Bowling Green State University. He is the son of David and Denise Dahlinghaus.

The Layton Family Foundation was created in memory of Wayne Layton, who grew up in the Maplewood area and passed away in 2013. Following his belief in the importance of a college education, the scholarship is awarded each year to a local graduate who will be a first-generation college student.

Online applications are available for these and many other scholarships through The Community Foundation website at www.commfoun.com beginning mid-December each year.
