ANNA — The Anna Board of Education met recently to discuss the recent events held by the school, future school field trips, as well as updates on construction.

The elementary school served over 1,200 meals at this year’s Visitor’s Day luncheon. The children’s relatives were invited to the school and joined the students in their lunch period, giving parents a chance to visit their kids at their place of learning, spend time together, and be more involved with the school.

The middle school and high school sent 20 district staff members to attend a full day Youth Mental Health First Aid training in order to certify adults working with students. In an effort to be more accessible to students who may be struggling with their mental health, participating staff will now be certified to handle situations as they arise with their students. The teachers reportedly enjoyed the training and more staff will be encouraged to participate.

The high school approved two out of state field trips at this meeting, including levels 3 and 4 Spanish to Detroit, Michigan, on Nov. 6 for a Spanish experience, and an FCCLA Cluster Meeting Nov. 16-20 in Phoenix, Arizona.

Andy Bixler gave the superintendent update, covering general board reports in addition to the details for the teachers regarding the upcoming OSBA Capital Conference Nov. 11-13. The Board also approved the recommended supplemental contracts for the annual Washington, DC, trip chaperones, and baseball, softball, and track coaching positions.
