Anna BOE kicks off 2016

ANNA — The Anna Local Schools Board of Education held its annual organizational meeting on Monday, Jan. 11, 2016.

All five board members in addition to the superintendent, treasurer, and three principals were present. Amy Larger also attended the meeting. Superintendent Andy Bixler called the meeting to order and the elected board members, Michelle Brunson and Adam Reiss, were sworn in. The board selected Dale Bensman as president for 2016, while Matt Murray will serve as the board’s vice-president.

In organizational action, the regular meeting time of the board will remain 6:30 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in middle school room 209. The board members maintained their current rate of compensation at $80 per meeting and opted to donate $150 to the Anna Education Scholarship fund.

Treasurer Denny Raberding was approved to collect taxes, invest funds, pay bills and advance money between funds. Superintendent Andy Bixler was approved to act as the district’s purchasing agent, sign checks in the absence of the treasurer, employ temporary employees and accept resignations.

Elementary Principal John Holtzapple was approved as the acting superintendent in the absence of Bixler. The board adopted the procedural safeguards for the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act, an annual action, and appointed Diane Bornhorst as the district’s public records officer.

The following committee assignments were made for board members:

Anna Education Foundation: Jason Fogt; Athletic Council: Murray, OSBA; Legislative Authority: Bensman; Certified Staff Liaison: Brunson; Classified Staff Liaison: Reiss; Village Liaison: Bensman and Facilities Liaison: Bensman.

Raberding provided an overview of salaries for the district. He explained how employee salaries are developed and the

role they play in the district’s budget. Bixler presented to the board the final draft of the community mailing for the March 15 Building Renovation Levy. He also reviewed planned meetings that he and Raberding will attend to present information about the levy. Finally, Bixler asked board members to help arrange other similar meetings with members of the community.

The meeting moved into executive session at 7:30 p.m. The regular meeting resumed and was adjourned at 8:10 p.m. The next regular meeting of the Anna Local Schools Board of Education is set for Monday, Feb. 8 at 6:30 p.m.
