Deadline set for speech contest

SIDNEY — The Shelby County Right to Life has announced that Feb. 11 is the deadline for high school juniors and seniors to register to participate in its annual speech contest.

The contest is scheduled for Feb. 15, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., in St. john’s Lutheran Church in Sidney.

Contestants should prepare and present a 5 to 7-minute pro-life speech about one of the following topics: abortion, infanticide, euthanasia or stem cell research. Cash awards will be made to the top three finishers. The winner will receive $300 cash and advance to the state contest, April 30, in Columbus, with the chance to continue to the national contest, July 9 in Virginia. Second and third place finishers will receive $150 and $100, respectively.
