SIDNEY — The Shelby County Student United Way Committee has announced they are accepting applications through Friday, March, 8. The students have been provided a $10,000 allocation budget by the Shelby County United Way board of directors. Grant requests cannot exceed $2,500.

The Student United Way Committee is made up of local junior and senior leaders representing all high schools in Shelby County. They will be working together to determine where the money will be awarded based on what they see as a need in the community.

Interested applicants can request an application from the Shelby County United Way by contacting Executive Director Scott Barr at 937-492-2101 or [email protected]. Students will review the 0-18 youth grants, and those in the impact areas of mental health (counseling), substance abuse prevention, and food scarcity may be prioritized.

Once applications are submitted, the committee will work to prioritize the requests. After March 14, organizations will be notified if they have been selected to come before and present the plan of action to the committee. The committee will hear requests on April 11 and grants will be awarded in May.
