Upper Valley CC names students of the quarter

PIQUA — Haeley Kittel, Piqua High School Senior, and Dairan Kaltenbach, Houston High School Junior, were named the Upper Valley Career Center Students of the Quarter for the second nine week grading period.

According to Upper Valley CC Director of Student Services Matt Meyer, Kittel is an Early Childhood Education and Care II major and Kaltenbach is a Computer Information Technologies I major.

Darian Kaltenbach is the son of Sharon Kaltenbach of Portsmouth and the late Phil Kaltenbach. He was recommended by his Computer Information Technologies instructor, Mr. David Briggs. Briggs shared that Darian brings a unique enthusiasm for computer learning to class every day, always has a great attitude, is friendly, encouraging, and has a great sense of humor. His academic teachers state Darian is a great worker, intelligent, and has a true desire to learn and achieve.

Haeley Kittel is the daughter of Kevin Kittel of Houston and Angela Vale of Piqua. She was recommended by her Early Childhood Education and Care instructor Natalee Heath, who shared that Kittel works hard, listens well, and is willing to help others in the class; further, she shows initiative and is always positive. Her academic teachers state that Haeley is a fantastic, hard-working, reliable student who is a leader for her peers.

Nominations for Student of the Quarter are nominated by their career-technical program instructors. Students’ attendance, citizenship, leadership and effort are rated. In addition the student’s academic instructors are asked to rate each nominee’s effort during the nine-week grading period.

Two students earned commendation for their nominations. Students earning an “Award of Merit” designation for Student of the Quarter honors are: Ashley Eichelberger, Interactive Media II and Maria Vernon, Exercise Science II.
