Russia BOE recognizes students, hires staff

RUSSIA — The Russia Board of Education met on Feb. 17, for a regular meeting.

The board recognized Hannah Schneible for being the state winner for the doodle4google competition. To help her win the national competition they encourage all community members to vote for Hannah at https://www.google.com/doodle4google/vote.html#d=1-6. Voting ends Feb. 22.

Principal Karen Bensman led a discussion with the board regarding possible revisions to the athletic/extra-curricular code of conduct to be implemented for the 2016-17 school year.

They approved the 2016-17 school calendar.

The board accepted the following donations:

• $1,000 from the Versailles Savings & Loan for scholarship purposes.

• $250 each from Honda of America’s Honda Hero program donated by Dale Alt and Derron Wilson to be used for the bowling program.

• A variety of elementary art and music supplies from Google valued at approximately $2,500.

The board voted to employ for the 2015-16 school year:

• Kelli Lopuch as a substitute teacher at a rate of $80 per day, on an as-needed basis.

• Brooke Pierron as a long term substitute teacher during Mrs. Raterman’s maternity leave.

• Mark Travis as Assistant Varsity Track Coach at a salary of $1,275.

• Dale Alt as Assistant Varsity Track Coach at a salary of $1,275.

• Dawn Luthman as Junior High Track Coach at a salary of $1,275.

• Missy Seger as Junior High Track Coach at a salary of $1,275.

• Missy Monnin for additional hours as technology instructor on an as needed basis not to exceed 25 hours at her current hourly rate.

• Jacob Circle as a substitute aide for a Russia student at the Anna Unit at a rate of $12 per hour on an as needed basis.

The board also approved the following coaches for the 2015-16 school year:

• Ed Magoto and Taylor Magoto as volunteer Varsity Assistant Track Coaches.

• Judy Goubeaux as Volunteer Assistant Softball Coach.

• Tom Doseck and Jeremy Unverferth as Volunteer Baseball Coaches for the 2015-16 school year.

Russia Local School is looking to fill the position of Varsity Volleyball Coach for the 2016-17 school year. Interested candidates should apply to Amber Cordonnier at acordonnier@russiaschool by March 11.
