Sidney American Legion names Boys State delegates

SIDNEY — Sidney American Legion Post 217 Commander Rick Lunsford announced the names of local high school junior boys who have been selected as delegates to Ohio American Legion Buckeye Boys State.

The delegates are:

• Christian Academy High School- Jay Curlis, son of Kim and Bob Curlis; Josiah Kramer, son of Brian and Susan Kramer and Paul Kindig, son of Marsha and Eric Kindig.

• Lehman High School- Jacob Schmiesing, son of Greg and Christina Schmiesing and Will Hoersten, son of Patrick and Jennifer Hoersten.

• Sidney High School- Ian Humphrey, son of Michael and Lori Humphrey; Dylan Zerklle, son of Barry and Kelly Zerkle, Logan Johnson, son of Brian and Tammi Johnson and Dylan Hensley, son of Krista and Anthony Hensley.

Boys State will be held at Bowling Green State University June 12-19, 2016. It is an eight-day intensive education program on Ohio government for high school students, where each boy becomes a part of the operation of a mythical 51st state including local and county governments.

Participants are exposed to the rights, privileges, duties and responsibilities of a franchised citizen. City, County and State governments are operated by students elected to the various offices. Activities include, legislative sessions, court proceedings, law enforcement presentations, assemblies, a band and recreation.

Boys State Chairman Chuck Craynon stated this program, founded in Ohio in 1936, is the largest in the nation with over 1200 boys attending. These young men wlll become more familiar with government through a nonpartisan, objective, educational approach.
