PIQUA — Upper Valley Career Center has been honored as a SkillsUSA Chapter Excellence Program. The national “Models of Excellence” awards were announced April 21 to recognize the very best chapters across the U.S. The Upper Valley SkillsUSA Chapter is the only recipient in the Ohio.

As Models of Excellence winners, winning chapters are among an elite group of the top 24 SkillsUSA chapters nationally. This distinct honor represents extraordinary efforts in applying the SkillsUSA Framework for developing personal, workplace and technical skills.

The Upper Valley Career Center SkillsUSA is led by Jeff Bertke, Electrical Trades instructor, and Sara Plozay, Cosmetology instructor. Bertke and Plozay and student representatives are invited to attend the National Leadership and Skills Conference in Louisville, Kentucky, and receive a $2,000 chapter grant. They will be honored at a recognition dinner, appear on stage in front of the entire SkillsUSA delegation and will have an opportunity to compete for top chapter honors during interviews on Wednesday, June 22.

The SkillsUSA Framework Supports a Balanced Program The SkillsUSA Framework illustrates how students fulfill the mission of the organization “to empower members to become world-class workers, leaders and responsible American citizens.”

SkillsUSA is a partnership of students, teachers and industry working together to ensure America has a skilled workforce. SkillsUSA helps each student excel by providing educational programs, events and competitions that support career and technical education in the nation’s classrooms. There are nearly 400 Upper Valley Career Center students active in the organization.
