SIDNEY — Sidney Middle School recently held its academic awards programs for grades 5-8. Fifty percent of the entire student body was honored for their academic achievements for the 2015-2016 school year. Awards were presented by principals Diane Voress, Kevin Boerger, and Michael Moore, as well as various classroom teachers. Honor roll awards were presented to students who achieved accordingly for all the first 3 nine-weeks grading periods. Perfect attendance students were entered in drawings for $50 cash prize incentives. Student Council members acted as ushers.

Fifth-grade recognitions

Fifth-graders earning special classroom recognitions were as follows: All-Star Student Awards-Thomas Foster-Wheeler, Lexee Brewer, Madison Garber, Noah Baldauf, Reina Sanchez, and Brianna Dillinger; Responsibility Awards-Andrew Bonifas and Joe Asbill; Most Improved Student Awards-Kharma Harris and Diego Olivares.

In the eighth grade program Jalen Hudgins received the MVP Joe Ward award for track and was recognized for breaking the school record in the long jump at 19 feet 2 inches. Sidney High School Academia Awards went to Faith Bender (first year), Conner Nuss (second year), and Nobel Zhou (3rd year). Nobel was also recognized as a three-time SMS Spelling Bee winner and a three-time SMS Geography Bee winner.
