FL BOE to pay higher premiums

FORT LORAMIE — The Fort Loramie Board of Education will pay 8 percent more in insurance premiums for property, inland marine, crime, liability, commercial automobile and umbrella coverage for the 2016-2017 school year.

The insurance, from Ohio School Plan, carries deductibles of $250 to $2,500 and costs $35,265. Premiums for the 2015-2016 school year cost $32,610. The new coverage is based on an increase in property values of $1,362,509. Earthquake coverage has been increased to $15 million and outdoor property was increased by $300,000.

The board approved the new rates during its June 20 meeting.

In other business, the board:

• Approved appropriation and FY2017 appropriation adjustments; activitiy budgets; student fees; and lunch prices, which are the same as in 2015-2016.

• Approved the purchase of new K-6 science textbooks and related materials, which will replace the series purchased in 2006.

• Approved a resolution authorizing the purchase of competitive retail electric service from the lowest responsible bid submitted to Southwestern Ohio Education Purchasing Council for the period commencing June 2017 and terminating no later than May 2020.

• Accepted donations of $97 by the Community Post to support the Art Club, $1,873.35 by GYM Inc. to support athletics, $125 by Fort Loramie teachers to support the Marie Quinlin Scholarship, $14.66 by Target to support the High School Principals Fund, and $577.18 from two anonymous donors to support the class of 2018.

• Adopted an administrative procedure to comply with the Ohio Revised Code.

• Authorised the superintendent to be the district’s purchasing agen for FY 2017.

• Approved a three-year agreement with Schafer Oil Co. Inc. for fuel for school buses; a contract with Shelby County Board of Health for nursing services at an hourly rate of $37; a bid by Republic Services for waste disposal during 2016-2017; and an agreement with NKTelco.

• Approved a resolution regarding the purchase and removal of personal property exceeding $10,000 in value.

• Accepted the resignation of elementary teacher Aaron Rose.

• Hired Bradley Frilling as technology coordinator and Damon Smith as athletic director, each on three-year contracts; Paula J. Coder as an in-car driver’s education instructor and Susan A. Kaufman as an in-car and classroom driver’s education instructor; Kristin Heitkamp as a half-time cross country assistant; and laura Schmitmeyer as College Credit Plus adviser.

• Approved issuance of salary notices to certified and classified staff and changed the placement of Lisa Schmiesing on the salary schedule due to advanced training.

• Approved the 2016-2017 elementary school student handbook, the sixth-grade field trip to Camp Willson scheduled for May 11-12, 2017, and a request for extended leave by jaime Quatman.
