BOTKINS — Botkins Local School students will start their second full year of school in the new building on Wednesday, Aug. 24.

They will be greeted by two new teachers: Jodi Grillot, kindergarten, and Bobby Young, gifted. Students and parents will have an opportunity to meet them, and the rest of their teachers on Monday, Aug. 22 from 5 to 7 p.m. during the school’s open house.

New for this school year is an expansion of the College Credit Plus classes, including the creation of Dual Enrollment American History for high school students. Also, a third section of kindergarten and fourth grade were added at the elementary, according to new Superintendent Jeff McPheron.

Renovation of the Botkins Athletic Complex has been completed, as well.

Class lists will be posted on Wednesday, Aug. 10. Mrs. Meyer will be in the guidance office Wednesday, Aug. 10, from noon to 3 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 11, from 9 a.m. to noon, and Tuesday, Aug. 16, from 9 a.m. to noon for any students in grades 9 to 12 who wish to make schedule changes. The schools asks that you do this on these days to make the first few days of school go more smoothly.

The Ohio Department of Health has mandated that seventh-graders must be immunized against meningococcal disease before school starts. Twelfth-graders must be immunized if they are 16 or older. For information, call the Shelby County Health Department at 498-7249.
