Eight new teachers in New Bremen

NEW BREMEN — New Superintendent Dr. Andrea Townsend, eight teachers and a cafeteria worker began their first academic year in New Bremen as students returned to classrooms here Aug. 19.

Kindergarten students met for half-days Thurday and Friday and will begin all-day kindergarten Monday.

The new teachers are Abby Wente, kindergarten; Diana Kramer, second grade; Cory Stephens, sixth-grade math; Kayla Steinemann, junior high science; Chris Schmidt, junior high social studies; Mike Gast, high school English; Zackary Nellom, music; and Ben Salazar, Spanish.

Julie Langhals has joined the cafeteria staff.

During the summer, workers completed several facility projects:

Concrete curbs were fixed at the elementary/junior high building. Parking lots at both buildings were repaired. The Middle School roof was repaired. Classrooms were painted in both buildings. The elementary/junior high building got a new electric panel and the high school auditorium got new lighting. New furnitue was installed in the business classroom and lighting was replaced in the commons.

Lunch prices for the 2015-16 school year will be $2.80 for children in grades kindergarten through six; $2.90 for students in grades seven through 12; and $4.30 for adults. Milk will cost 35 cents.

This year, students in grades four through 12 will have the option of selecting a sandwich or a chef’s salad instead of the entree when they buy school lunches.

Athletic season tickets will be available to purchase until noon, Aug. 28. And adult reserved-seat season pass for football costs $27. General admission adult season passes for volleyball cost $22.50. A fall student season pass costs $30. A reserved-seat family fall pass which covers admission to all junior high and high school games for two adults and students in grades kindergarten through 12 costs $110. A general admission family pass costs $100.

Senior citizens who are 60 or older can purchase a general admission season pass for entry to all home games throughout the year for $35.

Single ticket admission to high school football games is $6 for adults or students; to junior high football and volleyball games is $3 for adults, $2 for students.
