Willowbrook open house set for Oct. 16

PIQUA — The Upper Valley Career Center Environmental Occupations students will host the annual Willowbrook Environmental Education Center and Garbry Museum Open House on Sunday, Oct. 16, from 1 to 4 p.m. The museum is located in Upper Valley Career Center’s Garbry Hall which can b is accessed from Looney Road, Piqua, Ohio.

According to the program instructors Jim Metz and Michaella Quinter, this is the one time during the year that artifacts from the J. Scott Garbry Collection can be viewed by the public. The collection is displayed as Village Square including a barbershop, a general store, a bank, post office, and offices for a doctor, dentist, and lawyer, and much more.

The Career Center students will demonstrate the Early American cooking in a Dutch oven over an open fire and have cleared a loop trail around a portion of Willowbrook. The 180 acre Environmental Learning Lab includes a prairie which has taken over 30 years to develop as well as many different plant and water habitats. Guided nature hikes will be conducted up to 2:30 p.m. As usual this event is free and open to the public.
